What is ALT Text?
Overview
In HTML, ALT text is a short text description of an image. It is added to aid non-graphical browsers and appears when the image cannot be displayed.
Alt text is the principle of accessible web design, with the primary purpose to describe images to visitors who are unable to view them. Alt text is a word or phrase that can be used as an attribute in an HTML document to inform website visitors about the nature or content of an image. Alternate text appears in a blank box that normally contains the image. Adding alternative text to icons is especially important when you're improving the accessibility of your site. It helps the reader understand what the image is about.
