What is Baseline?
Overview
In UI design making, the baseline is an important measurement tool between text and any other element. In typography, the baseline is the imaginary line on which the text sits on a page.
The baseline can be any number that serves as a reasonable factor and defined starting point for comparison purposes. It can be used to evaluate the effects of a change, track the progress of an improvement project, or measure the difference between two periods.
When it comes to designing, the baseline will be the invisible line (grid), that is used to write the text. Therefore in typography, it helps us to write coherent content in a straight line.
- The baseline grid consists of invisible lines on which text sits and is written.
- This helps us make sure that the words are placed evenly and ranked in the baseline typography.
