What is Diary Study?
Overview
Diary study or diaries are qualitative research method that is used to collect information about users over time. Participants are asked to write in a journal about their daily lives over a certain period of time.
A diary study is a research method used to collect qualitative data about a user's behavior, activities, and experiences over time. In a diary study, participants self-reported data over a long period of time – that is, over an extended period that could range from a few days to a month or longer. During the defined reporting period, study participants are asked to keep a diary and log specific information about the activities being studied. To help participants remember to fill out their diaries, they are sometimes prompted periodically (for example, via daily notification or at select times during the day).
