What is Hick’s Law?
Overview
Hick’s Law states that- the time it takes to make a decision increases with the complexity and number of choices. Sometimes referred to as the Hick-Hyman law; Hick's law is a psychological principle that states that the more options are available to a person, the longer it will take for him to make the right decision.
The law demonstrates the relationship between the time it takes someone to make a decision and the number of possible choices he or she has. More choices will increase decision time. Hick’s Law is a UX design principle to simplify the decision-making process; the law is used to simplify choices and remove barriers in decision-making.
Hick’s is used to reduce the number of choices to make precise decisions in UX design making. The purpose of this law is to reduce the complexity of making decisions, doing so; complexity reduces by simplifying the decision-making process.
