What is Negative Advertising?
Overview
Negative Advertising is the result of poor usability: unsatisfied users who tell others to avoid a site or process because of their bad experience.
Negative advertising focuses on changing a person's behavior by attracting undesirable feelings or consequences. These advertisements may invoke feelings such as shame, fear, or sadness before providing solutions to help individuals overcome a challenge.
They may also point out faults in a competitor or share disturbing information. The goal is often to annoy or upset the target audience so that they can either initiate a new action or stop engaging in the undesirable product.
