What is Open-Source Software?
Overview
Open source means publicly available code. Anyone can further develop and edit open-source software. There is usually an entire community behind open source software, which puts a lot of time and experience into it.
Open source software is a development tool with source code that anyone can view, modify and enhance. Source code is a piece of software that most computer users never see, i.e., It is code that computer programmers can manipulate to change how a program or application works.
Programmers who have access to the source code of a computer program can improve that program by adding features or fixing parts that don't work correctly. Open source enables a designer to modify and build elements without any trouble.
Android is an open-source operating system.
